Description
This is the template that lets a solid-wood mantel or thick shelf sit flush to the wall. Used with a router, it guides a clean, straight recess into the back of the mantel so the Studlock Mantel Bracket beds into the wood instead of holding the piece off the wall — no gap behind it. It is cut from half-inch plywood, sized to match your Mantel Bracket (10 to 70 inches, matched to your mantel length), and comes with two wood screws to hold it in place while you work. Use a 3/4-inch by 5/16-inch router bit (we sell one if you need it), and drill the support-rod holes first, before routing — the drilling guide will not fit once the recess is cut.

It went so smoothly! I purchased the jig, bits, etc and the old beam is mounted without a hitch. Highly recommend!
The bracket, the jig and the drilling guide are a great solution for a concealed mantle / shelf!
Love they placed the register notches for the drill jig. Awesome jig! Worth the money to save time.
The jig was poorly cut and resulted in inaccurate holes. I lined everything up as best I could with the jig, but it was made out of poor quality plywood that resulted in extreme errors when drilling holes in the shelf.
Overall felling kinda meh. I emailed customer service twice saying “I am on the road please call me” sooooo they emailed me and then texted.The wall plate for the mantle has so many holes drilled into it (understandable) but it makes plate less rigid, so it follows the contour of the wall. My wall appear VERY flat but the slight imperfections are magnified at the tips of the prongs. Mounting the mantle was nearly impossible. I had to resort to using a sledge hammerThe finished mantle is beautiful but I definitely will research other options if mantle installation is required in future projects
Worked like a charm. Easy to drill holes and to hang the bracket.
