Four stars, only because of the length of time to produce and the residue on the bracket that got on my fingers and smudged up the wall before I realized that I needed to clean it first before installation. A nice wipe down with a cloth before shipping would have been helpful. The shelf itself? The perfect compliment to our newly renovated bathroom…sitting directly over the ‘throne’ in the water closet with a plant on it. The wife loves it!! I’ll sent you a photo, if you like.

Beautiful shelves, but not quite as functional as they are attractive

I ordered 3 floating shelves and 2 bracket-less shelves to turn into custom window sills for my new kitchen. The floating shelves are stunning and super sturdy, but because the metal brackets are so thick, the shelves stick out about a quarter inch off the wall. My contractor used a router to bore out the areas where the brackets get inserted so that the shelves could sit flush against the wall. We both think it would be nice if this was done on the manufacturing end. As for the window sills, I deliberately bought them extra wide knowing they’d need to be trimmed to fit, and this worked out well mainly because one of them had a split down the entire length of it that actually caused the whole piece to bend back and forth along the split. I am fortunate in that the part being trimmed will actually include the entire splitted section, but if I had been aiming to use it as-is, it would not be suitable as a functional shelf because it would not hold any weight without breaking along the split. I certainly understand that because Ultra Shelf uses real barnwood, there will always be imperfections such as knots, nail holes, splinters, etc. (and to me that’s part of what makes them so beautiful), but a piece with a split of that magnitude makes it unusable except for pure decoration, and therefore should not be sold as a shelf. Aesthetically, the shelves add such a gorgeous touch to my kitchen, and I’d certainly buy them again.

    Reclaimed barn wood floating shelves

The shelves look better than expected. I installed them in less than 2 hours! They were installed in a barn loft apartment so the authenticity was very important.
