HOW TO BUILD YOUR CORNER SHELVES

Our corner shelves consist of 2 separate shelves that you simply install adjacent to each other into a corner. Because there are separate shelves, there will be a seam where the 2 shelves come together.

One item to consider before deciding on a corner shelf:

Make sure your corner wall is square:  If the corner of your wall is not square then your shelves will have a gap either at the face of the shelf or the back of your shelf. To ensure that the corner of your wall is square, take an object that you know is square, for example, a game board, a large book, or a carpenter square. If your square object is unable to fit all the way into the corner or if there is a gap between the edge of your object and the wall then you know your wall is not square and we recommend you not move forward with a corner shelf.

HOW TO CUSTOMIZE YOUR CORNER SHELVES

STEP 1: CHOOSE YOUR WOOD TYPE

We offer a large variety of wood types and finish colors to match your current color and design scheme of your home. To see examples of what each wood type looks like, click on the links below.

STEP 2: CHOOSE YOUR SHELF DEPTH

For corner shelves, we assume that you want the same depth for both shelves so when selecting the depth, you are actually choosing the depth for both shelves that make up your corner shelf. If you want 2 different depths, you can still accomplish that, but you would have to purchase individual shelves from the other listings on our website.

The most common place in the home for corner shelves is the kitchen. Our recommended depth for kitchen shelves is 11". The reason, is most upper cabinets are 12" deep and it's best to not try and make your shelves flush with the cabinets therefore we recommend the shelf be a little more shallow than the cabinets. If you are not placing the shelf next to an upper cabinet then we recommend 12" deep shelves.

STEP 3: CHOOSE YOUR SHELF THICKNESS

We offer 4 thickness options for your shelves: 1-3/4", 2", 3", and 5". For all of our stained shelves, the 1-3/4" thickness is a solid hardwood shelf and is our most popular type of shelf. The 2", 3", and 5" thick shelves are veneer shelves which means the outer shell of the shelf is hardwood but the inside of the shelf is HDF (High Density Fiberboard).

STEP 4: CHOOSE YOUR SHELF LENGTH

This step can be a little tricky because you have to factor in the depth of one shelf and subtract that to the length of the adjoining shelf.

First step is to decide how long you want each shelf to be from the corner of the wall. For example, let's say you want each shelf to be 36" from the corner and you want the depth to be 10". Shelf 1 would be 36"x10" and shelf 2 would be 26"x10" because you have to subtract the depth of the first shelf.

TIP: If you want 1 shelf to be longer than the other, we recommend making the shorter shelf go all the way to the corner.  That way you don't have a really short shelf and make it harder to hit your wall studs. The longer your shelf, the better chances you have to hitting a wall stud.
