Four Things We're Drawing Inspiration From This Month

Glass Roofs

Glass ceilings don’t always have the best connotation, but when we saw glass kitchen ceilings in the Utah Valley Parade of Homes, obsession was sparked. We love letting light pour into the home, and a glass roof is a unique way to flood the home with light and nature. We can only imagine how dreamy a glass roof is on a rainy day or how nice it would be to cuddle up on the couch and watch the sunset slowly color your entire space.

Now, replacing the roof over our kitchen with the world’s largest skylight isn’t in our budget, but the concept of connecting homes and nature together through a pane of glass is definitely something that has us inspired. We feel so much kinship with nature, and we love the calm that it can bring into our homes. Glass ceilings in the homes remind us of long evenings spent in sunrooms in the south, which not only brings us back to our roots but gives us a sense of connection to the past and present.

To incorporate the feeling of a glass ceiling, we’re making sure to open our windows up every day, switching to sheerer curtains through the summer months, and bringing in some light-reflecting glass (aka a mirrorball in a bowl on the counter) to brighten up our space and boost our dopamine levels.

Fresh Florals

Fresh florals have long been a favorite of ours, but this season we're finding ourselves particularly drawn to bright, vibrant colors. We love that a simple bouquet can make a big impact on a room without detracting from the overall aesthetic. Our living room is very neutral with soft blue and green hues throughout. Adding an arrangement with some bring pink flowers and springy greens gave the room a good amount of complementary contrast.

Because we've been so inspired by the flowers in and around our home this year, we've tried incorporating florals into our decor a little more. We purchased a flower press and some floating frames to DIY a little bit of seasonal art that we can add to our shelves in the spring and summer. This is a great way to keep and display sentimental flowers too. The flower press cost less than twenty dollars, and it has provided many a fun afternoon with the little helpers collecting flowers to frame and preserve, plus, we've been pretty impressed with some of our art. Definitely a purchase we'd make again.

We've also tried our hand at arranging florals recently. Twenty minutes on TikTok and a trip to the local flower shop later we were feeling pretty inspired. Is it a skill that came naturally over here? Absolutely not. Was it a ton of fun and very relaxing? Without a doubt it was. We'll do it again when this haphazard bouquet dies (and eventually gets pressed). Let's normalize being not-so-great at something and still doing it because it's fun.

Home Made Ice Cream

Homemade ice cream is synonymous with summer in our book and after making a few batches ourselves, we're feeling extra inspired. Not only are we thoroughly enjoying this cold, tasty treat, but coming up with fun, unique flavor combinations has been a ton of fun. Our favorite so far? Lemon and Mint sorbet.

Our obsession with ice cream has led us to hosting a few ice cream parties, where we use our charcuterie boards as a fun, aesthetic way to display toppings. It's a great way to gather friends and family, without the commitment of making a whole dinner. The toppings boards have made way for some creative (and delicious) ice cream combos that have us inspired in the kitchen again. And inspiration in the kitchen always leads to copious amounts of shelf redecorating.

Linen Textiles

Linen textiles have been rising in popularity over the past few years, and we love that the linen look has migrated over into the clothing world as well. Recently, you can find us in our matching linen set, curled up under our linen duvet cover, or comfortably seated on a throne of linen pillows on our couch. As we said, we've got a lot of love for linen right now, and here's why.

As we work to bring more organic-feeling, natural elements into our homes, linen is one material that is both stunning and versatile. The sophisticated but laid-back look of the linen lends itself to dozens of home decor styles in a way that elevates the space while adding a level of luxury and comfort. Linen is natural, soft, breathable, and a great way to add a feminine element to a room that needs a little softening. Linen curtains are a great way to add warmth and subtle texture to a space.

If linen is out of your budget, try something with a ‘linen-look.’ Many products boast that linen-like appearance, but only products made of 100% natural fabric, like cotton, are going to give you that look. Synthetic fabrics can’t match the look or feel of natural fabrics, which is why cotton that’s woven together in a linen look is the best linen alternative.
